DIY Easter

Painted Easter Eggs

This year, we started a new egg decorating tradition. We have always dyed real eggs in the past, with the store bought egg dye or with Kool-aid. But then I’m left with a dozen hard boiled eggs that no one wants to eat. I thought it would be fun to give something more permanent and thoughtful a try.

I bought wooden eggs and found this adorable white basket at Target. I plan to have each of the kids paint one egg every Easter. Then I can display them in this basket (or multiple baskets as we have more and more eggs) and look back on all of our past Easter celebrations.

I pulled out all of the acrylic paints and let them each choose two or three colors. Then I told them they could paint whatever they wanted on their eggs. Colette mixed colors and painted all over her egg. Cullen said his was a landscape.

Both kids really seemed to enjoy painting even more than dying eggs. (Not to say we won’t ever dye eggs again because that is always fun too.) They seemed so excited to make something that we would decorate with year after year, and they were so proud of their creations! I can’t wait to see how their eggs change over the years. I’m excited to see how their designs change as they get older and how their color choices reflect their personalities each year.
