Cullen’s Birthday Weekend

Since we aren’t having Cullen’s party until this weekend, we decided to do as much as possible to make his birthday weekend extra special.
Saturday, his actual birthday, was a pretty low-key day. Cullen and I hung around the house (and played outside) while Corey worked. Then when Corey got home, we ran out to target to get an Icee. I may have needed to pick up a few things too, but Cullen didn’t mind since he got to slurp on an Icee (my secret for making Target runs as smooth as possible.)

After church on Sunday, we spent a few hours playing at the park. Cullen loved the swings and slide, but he was beyond thrilled to just run around the wide open fields and try to pet all of the dogs.

This was one of the best weekends we have had together as a family. No stress, no worries, just us having a great time together doing what we love. Happy Birthday to my little boy. I hope you had as much fun celebrating as we did!

Cullen is 2!!!

Yep, that’s right. I can’t believe it either. My little boy is two years old. Give me a minute while I wrap my head around that…
OK. So I have a two year old. And I have to say, He is one pretty awesome little boy!
I’ve said it before, but he constantly keeps us laughing. I never know what is going to come out of his mouth next. The way he answers questions and responds to our answers is absolutely hysterical; his responses range from “Um…how about…no” to “Oh yeah, that’s right, that’s right”. I feel like I have a teenager in my house already.
Despite being wild and sassy, he is also the sweetest little boy in the world (but I might be a little biased.) He loves to give hugs and kisses (to dogs as well as his family) and to hear him say “I love you” melts my heart every single time.
CULLEN’S FAVORITES
Foods: Chick-fil-a lemonade. Okay, so technically that is a drink, but he gets so excited for “more ‘nade” whenever he sees a take-out cup, always hoping it’s his favorite lemonade. Overall, he is a very picky eater. We still can’t get him to eat a meat or vegetable (without sneaking them into other foods like muffins.) For now, we offer what we eat, and make sure he gets as much good food as possible.
Activities/Toys: The toys he plays with most are Legos (Duplos) and any kind of vehicle. He loves anything with wheels or propellers. But Cullen would pass up any toy for a chance to run around outside. I am beyond thrilled that he loves being outside so much and is such an active little boy.
Shows: Curious George. But lately he has been into Octonauts almost as much. Almost.
Phrases: “Oh yeah, that’s right!”
“Um…how about..”(usually said with his finger on his chin)
“What’s that” (a question that is only slightly less annoying than “why” when asked 100
                                         times in a row)
I am excited to see what the next year will bring and who this little boy will grow up to be!

Baby #2: 23 Weeks

baby’s size: Grapefuit!

how I’m feeling: Like with Cullen, the 2nd trimester is treating me pretty well. I feel like a non-pregnant lady except with a rounder belly. My only complaint right now, is that I can’t start working on the nursery yet. I’m making plans and itching to get to work on this little girl’s room and Cullen’s big boy room, but I have to wait a couple more weeks. I’m just afraid I’m going to run out of time and energy if I have to wait too much longer!

best moment this week: We got to see out little girl again last Thursday and think we have figured out why she is so small! It’s nice to finally be getting some answers; and the plan for now is to keep monitoring her growth and make sure I eat as much as possible (especially protein!)

what I’m looking forward to: Cullen’s 2nd birthday is Saturday and we are having his party the next weekend. I can’t believe he is already two! We can’t wait to celebrate!

Baby #2: 22 Weeks

baby’s size: papaya!

how I’m feeling: A little tired. It’s been a little difficult to get back into our normal routine after almost two weeks off. I better get it together soon; I have a certain little boy’s birthday party to plan and a lot to accomplish over the next few months!

best moment this week: It has been a pretty uneventful week, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Cullen and I got to spend a lot of time together when I was off work!

what I’m looking forward to: Our next ultrasound is tomorrow! Excited to see our little girl and hopefully find out why she is so little!

Baby #2: 21 Weeks

baby’s size: Pomegranate

how I’m feeling: I feel great during the day. I love feeling our little girl move around and have even felt a few kicks from the outside. At night is a different story though. I have started having some heartburn when I lay down to go to bed, so the Tums now have a permanent place on my nightstand. And my dreams have been getting crazier and crazier; I never feel rested when I wake up in the morning. And unlike most normal pregnant women, my body doesn’t wake me up in the middle of the night when I have to go to the bathroom, so I end up in pain in the morning. I remember having the same problem with Cullen. Hopefully I’ll start sleeping better soon.

best moment this week: I have had a wonderful week getting to rest at home and spend every day with Cullen. I am going to have a hard time going back to work on Friday.

what I’m looking forward to: Our next ultrasound is in a week to make sure our little girl is growing like she should be.

2014 Christmas

Our Christmas

This year, the days leading up to Christmas were a little crazy. I had basically all of my shopping left to do at the last minute and I got the tree and decorations up just a few days ago. But Christmas Eve and Christmas day were great! Cullen had them best time and as a result, so did Corey and I.
Christmas Eve, Cullen got to meet Santa. I wish I had captured the look on his face when Santa walked through the door; it was priceless! He kept blinking his eyes in disbelief, frozen in wonder at how such a thing was really happening! He wouldn’t sit in Santa’s lap, but he did give him a big hug before leaving.

Christmas morning was absolutely wonderful! Cullen ran downstairs and immediately started playing with his toys. He wanted to open everyone’s gifts and wanted to play with each present immediately after it was opened. There is almost nothing more joyful than a child on Christmas morning!

We saw the rest of our family for lunch and dinner gatherings. It was great getting to spend time with everyone, and Cullen had a wonderful time playing with his cousins. I can’t wait to enjoy this holiday with two little ones next year!

Baby #2: 20 Weeks

baby’s size: banana (although our little one is a little smaller than average)

how I’m feeling: After a week of ups and downs, I’m feeling good. I can’t believe I am already halfway through this pregnancy! Only twenty more weeks until we meet our little girl!

best moment this week: Finding out we are having a girl! At our anatomy scan, we also found out that she only has a two vessel cord and is measuring about 12 days behind. All of her organs seemed to be developing just as they should be, but her smaller size had our doctor a little concerned.

We went Monday to the maternal fetal medicine doctor for a level II ultrasound. At that appointment, we got to see our little girl again (who is quite the wiggle worm and likes to make the ultrasound techs really work) and we also confirmed that all of her organs are developing perfectly, she is just a little on the small side. The MFM doctor didn’t seem concerned that it could be a genetic disorder; it looks like we may just have a smaller little one. We will go back in 2 1/2 weeks to make sure she and the placenta are growing.

what I’m looking forward to: Christmas and another week off with Cullen!

Baby #2

It’s a…

GIRL!!!

We found at our anatomy scan last Thursday that Cullen is going to have a little sister! Corey is a little nervous about having a girl, but we are all thrilled!

When we got home from the doctor, Cullen and I decorated our Christmas cookies. To celebrate his little sister, we decorated with all things pink. Pink icing, pink sugar, pink sprinkles.

Cullen had an absolute blast decorating (and eating) the cookies. He took bites out of about a dozen cookies before I could decorate them, ate more sprinkles than he put on the cookies, and was covered in pink icing from head to toe.

But once he got a handle on the piping bags, he decorated a whole patch of cookies all by himself. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen!

I cannot wait to welcome our little girl in May! I know that Cullen will be a great big brother and I am so excited to see the two of them together.

how I’m feeling: Great!

best moment this week: Feeling movement pretty consistently! I find myself sitting perfectly still at times to catch every movement. It’s just as exciting the second time around!

what I’m looking forward to: Our anatomy scan is tomorrow! I can’t wait to see out little one!
